One of the world’s largest icebergs is drifting beyond Antarctic waters, after being grounded for more than three decades, according to the British Antarctic Survey.The iceberg, known as A23a, split from the Antarctic’s Filchner Ice Shelf in 1986. WRANGELL, Alaska (AP) — Authorities recovered the body of an 11-year-old girl Saturday evening from the debris of a landslide in southeast Alaska that tore down a wooded mountainside days earlier, smashing into homes in a remote fishing village. The girl, Kara Heller, was the fourth person confirmed killed by last Monday night’s landslide.The girl’s parents Timothy Heller, 44 and Beth Heller, 36, and her sister Mara Heller, 16, were discovered and confirmed dead in the initial days after the landslide. Search crews are looking for a third child still missing from the Heller family, Derek, 12, and neighbor Otto Florschutz, 65, according to Tim DeSpain, a spokesperson for the Alaska Department of Public Safety. MEXICO CITY (AP) — Authorities in western Mexico said Sunday they have found the body of anti-mining activist Higinio Trinidad de la Cruz. Prosecutors said De la Cruz’s body was found on a rural road in the state of Jalisco near the border with the neighboring state of Colima. They said de la Cruz appeared to have been shot to death. The community group Tiskini said in a statement that de la Cruz had been abducted on Saturday. The group said he was an environmental and community activist in the Jalisco town of Ayotitlan. SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Schenectady Police Department announced they are investigating a theft from the Stella Pasta Bar on Jay Street. The incident took place on November 25. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! On Saturday, police responded to the area of 118 Jay Street for the report of a larceny. The restaurant's owner stated that his laptop was digitally pinging its location on Jay Street after he had left his car running, unlocked and unattended in the restaurant's driveway. The owner told police that when he returned to his car, a backpack reportedly containing the restaurant's bank bag with approximately $4,000 inside, as well as his laptop, was missing. Officers took down a description of the stolen items and began a search in the area. Halfmoon man charged with assault The investigation remains ongoing.
